A Guide To Enjoying Denver Activities

By Mavis Roach

If you find yourself in the Mile High City with no specific plans, you'll have no problem correcting that situation. Colorado's capital is chock full of interesting things to do. The following is a small sample of Denver activities.

Eggs, onions, cheese, peppers and ham make up the city's signature breakfast, the Denver omelet, a hearty start to any day. After breakfast, apply sunscreen before your foray into one of America's sunniest cities. This city basks in sunshine 300 days a year.

Stroll on Sixteenth Street - or ride its free bus - to the steps of the Capitol, crowned with a dome sheathed in two hundred ounces of pure gold. Find the marking on the Capitol steps that is exactly one mile above sea level. Next door, you'll find the Colorado History Museum with exhibits about the state's founding and the gold miners who founded it.

Arts enthusiasts love visiting the Denver Performing Arts Complex or The Plex. The Lincoln Center in New York City is the only performance center in the world larger than The Plex. Its ten venues include a ballroom, a concert hall, seven theatres and an opera house. Everyone can find something they like there.

Maybe you are more interested in sports than art. That's okay too, because the Mile High City has eight professional sports teams. The city is home to the NFL Broncos; the NBA Nuggets; the NHL Avalanche; the MLB Rockies; the MLS Rapids; the AFL Crush; the MLL Outlaws; and the NLL Mammoth.

Palate-pleasing restaurants are tucked between galleries and specialty shops at Larimer Square. This charming Victorian district is one of the city's epicenters of trendiness. It also showcases the Colorado sunsets beautifully.

After the sun sets, if you're not too weary from the day's adventures, warm up your vocal chords and find your way to the Wild Ivories Dueling Piano Saloon. This huge dueling piano bar may just be the most fun extravaganza in town and customers are part of the show. A nightcap of comedy and sing-a-long merrymaking will have you chuckling and whistling a merry tune all the way back to your hotel.

The Mile High City is anything but boring. Anyone who has attended its rodeo will put money on that. That money may have been minted at the Denver Mint, which is open to visitors for tours. Bank on the fact that there is almost no end to the number of Denver activities waiting for you to enjoy. Read more about: denver activities
