An Evaluation On Cloud Computing Is Less Affordable Compared To Traditional Webhosting?

By Jamaal Cardenas

Choosing the right kind of hosting can be a very tedious job for any consumer. With web hosting or colocation, anyone can have his or her own space on the Internet. Companies offer services in web hosting. In a dedicated traditional hosting, the consumer leases an entire server and does not share it with anyone else. The second type of web hosting is cloud hosting, which is now steadily gaining popularity. With cloud hosts, several servers are linked together. The customer is therefore charged not for the entire server, but only for the amount of processing power used. The question then arises whether cloud hosting is more expensive or traditional hosting. Customers have to pay for the entire server in traditional hosting. This fixed amount is constant, no matter how much processing power is being consumed.

This can be quite an expensive amount for people who do not need to use so many resources. The monthly fees are pre-set with traditional servers. Customers get their money's worth with traditional hosting, however, since they are provided with full on customer and technical support as well as security patches. All these services are not free and these add to the already huge expenses of the traditional hosting servers. Most websites, however, don't get millions of website hits daily. That's why even though you're not using any service, you still have to pay the fixed charges at the end of the month. It is not convenient for them to pay money for an entire month only to have a few visitors on a few days.

It's more economical for consumers to pay for only the amount of services they used up. This is where cloud hosting comes in.

Getting a cloud host is now a popular alternative. In cloud hosting, a usage based billing system is applied. This means that the consumers will have to pay an extra amount only when there is heavy traffic on their website. Although they're extremely beneficial, cloud hosts are still a foreign concept for most people. But we've all used cloud hosts in one way or another even though we may not be aware of it. If you use search engines or email providers such as Google or Yahoo then you have already become part of the cloud hosting system.

Contracts with cloud hosts are also less restrictive. Cloud hosting is also more efficient than a traditional server, since the latter makes use of only 60% of its capacity. You can save lots of resources, such as time, money, space, and electricity with cloud servers, since fully loaded cloud hosting can handle as much work as five traditional servers. Cloud hosting is more suitable for those clients whose websites experience heavy traffic occasionally or for a few days. Switching would be an economical decision. However, if a website experiences heavy traffic every day then the client should opt for buying or renting his own server. Traditional hosting can be more beneficial in that case since you won't have to pay additional fees.
