You need to use (SEO) Search engine optimization when you want to increase the amount of hits you receive on your blog or website. If you do not mind doing a little work for yourself, inexpensive search engine optimization methods are available.

The whole idea of (SEO) is to get your website or blog at the top of the list when a search is activated. The higher your URL is on the list, the better chance you have of getting the person running the search to click on your page.

If you can follow a few simple steps, then you can do this yourself. What you are going to have to do is edit your sites content and HTML to include key search words. Your (SEO) will then be built into your website design or blog.

Page titles are important to searches. They should not be too long or complex but should definitely include the name of your business along with three other key areas. The homepage and each subsequent page should have its own unique title that should tell people what that can find on those pages. You will enter the titles in the head of your HTML document.

Meta tags will help to put your site up on the list as well. Meta tags are descriptions or summaries of each page. You can place key search words here. The tags can be as short as one sentence and long as a short paragraph. This done in the head tag of your HTML document.

Another tool to help you is your URL. If you make your URL friendly and easy to remember, people are more likely to enter its address and link you to another related site. It should be easy to remember yet descriptive.

Search results can also be pulled from a site map. Your website should have a site map that is clearly ordered and up to date. This is where a user can go to see the content and structure of your site and you can place key words.

Bog about your site. You can do it from your own site or through a related site. Use key search words and include your URL where possible. You can also do this on social media sites.

If you put your URL on your business correspondence, it will make your address more memorable. It can go on business cards, letterhead, email signatures and newsletters.

Finally, sites like Google offer you an option to put your site in their local business center. Then when someone is searching for a type of business in a certain area, your business will come up on the list.

If you do not want to do the work yourself, you can hire a webmaster or web designer to do the work for you. The cost starts out at two hundred dollars and goes up. Remember, if you do it yourself or hire someone else, there is no guarantee you will be at the top of the list.
