By Gordon Frederick

People that travel often, normally know how to pack their luggage to speed up boarding process. As you are planning a vacation, you need to think about what will be smart and light. People that travel for business or frequently, are experts at bringing the appropriate baggage.

Many airlines offer self check-in. This confirms to the airline, that you have arrived. This will make the check-in process faster. Many different airlines are offering self check in at kiosk stations.

The kiosk is normally activated by a touchscreen. The kiosk requires you put in a confirmation number or credit card number to access your flight information. Once you put in the number, you should see your name and begin checking-in. The touchscreen will ask a question regarding a boarding pass. If you need a boarding pass, you will hit yes, and the pass will print right out. The next question will be if you have bags to check.

If you decide to check the bags, you should check the fees for luggage ahead of time, so that you have no surprises. If you decide to carry your bags on the plane, they can be placed in the overhead compartments. Also, weigh the bags before you arrive at the airport. When purchasing luggage, you want something that is very lightweight and not too large.

The regulations and rules with regard to air travel are numerous. Many items are not permitted on planes, for example, knives, box cutters, and scissors that are over four inches. Sporting good items, such as, clubs for golf, and baseball bats are not allowed. You can put your gun or other firearm in your checked luggage if you have the travel permit for them.

There is a security rule known as 3-1-1 that is used by all airports. Basically, this states, that a passenger, can carry 3 ounces of liquid or gel, in the form of lotion, toothpaste or hair products. These things must be place in a clear, quart sized, zipper bag. There is a one bag per person limit. The bag should be at the top of the carry-on for easy access and inspection.

All carry-on baggage, has to be scanned. All laptops, cameras and other electronics, need to be taken out of their case and placed in a bin. Jacket, coats, and shoes are to be removed and placed in a bin. All checked luggage is subject to a separate screening process. All passengers have to be scanned. Each individual has to go through metal detection. It is necessary to remove metal objects, such as jewelry, coins and belts and place in bin. If you set an alarm off during the time you are scanned, you will be screened further, either by a wand or pat down.

Remember to arrive at the airport, at least 2 hours in advance, for any unexpected situation that can occur. If you are patient, your travel should not be as stressful. Keep all the checkpoint rules in mind, as you pack your luggage. Always remember to have proper identification for everybody in your party.
