Outdoor activities in Menorca

By Lana Adames

Menorca is a superb Spanish holiday destination with its family friendly resorts, great night-life and, of course, sun, sea and sand. However, one of the main reasons holidaymakers chose here over other cities is the range of activities on offer. It offers activities to those wishing to partake in something relaxing to those looking to exercise their adrenalin and have some water-based fun. Here are a few of the most popular activities.

Scuba Diving. There is no shortage of scuba diving opportunities in Menorca and they cater for the beginner too with courses and tuition available. In fact, they also offer advanced levels should the more experienced diver decide to add to his ability. The Malakoff Wreck is a popular diving site but is more for the advanced diver than the beginner.

Walking. There a huge array of tracks in Menorca and some offer wonderful hiking opportunities. There is history all around and the gorges are perfect for ramblers. There are plans under way to restore a coastal path that extends along the coastline and is due to be completed shortly. It is called the Came de Cavalls. There are sections which are open already.

Sailing. Like scuba diving and hiking, there are some wonderful areas too, for sailing. Everything is taken care of as equipment and other facilities are available for all levels Ses Salines is regarded as the main sailing area of Menorca and has numerous different kinds of racing dingies such as Wayfarer and Lasers. Tuition is also provided and the RYA exams are available.

Golf. Although there is only the one golf course, Son Parc has pretty much everything. Situated in the North of Menorca, this eighteen-hole course is set in some stunning surroundings and its facilities include a driving range, putting green and restaurant. You can hire clubs and carts also. It further has a tennis course so if you feel like upping the pace a bit, you can spend your time practising your serve and volley with your fellow golf buddies.
