Cheap Holidays in Greece for Amazing Winter Sports

By Steve Alexander

As the home of the Olympics, Greece is well known for its sporting heritage, but there is a winter scene here. To enjoy some winter fun during your next cheap holidays in Greece, escape the clear blue waters and soft sand and head to the mountains. Greece offers a good variety of skiing slopes that accommodate all levels from beginners to advanced skiers.

The powder snow, excellent ski schools and 3,860m long run of Mount Vasilitsa make it a popular destination for beginners and families alike, although many of the ski resorts in Greece challenge intermediates too. With its three popular ski centres, a wealth of gentler slopes, ski schools and rental shops can be found in Metsovo.

Almost as high as they are attractive, the skiing resorts of Mount Parnassos offer downhill thrills galore. Offering snow coverage from December to March, the ski season at the popular resorts of Kelaria and Fterolaka means there is plenty of time to enjoy your next Greece holiday here.

As the second largest ski resort in Greece, Styga on Mount Helmos offers some truly challenging black and red runs and is also home to some special mogul ski runs. Parnassos is also home to one of the best-organized ski centres in the country and boasts the biggest downhill ski resort in Greece.

Snowboarders also flock to Vasilitsa as it has an array of natural ramps, challenging terrains and even a half-pipe. There is no better place to enjoy your cheap holidays in Greece if you're interested in snowboarding, whether you want to slalom through the beech trees or master your air tricks. The first ever jump contest was even organized here and adrenaline junkies will be able to enjoy a spot of snow rafting with friends in a 12-seater or two-person raft.
