Bought One And Then Purchased Another - Microsoft Antivirus Software Review

By Emily Griffin

As another reviewer suggested, you can buy Norton Internet Security 201X on Amazon for a fraction of the price compared to auto-renewing the software using the Norton Internet Security that is already running on your computer, when it starts pestering you a month before expiration of the license. Not only is the price much less at Amazon compared to the Norton renewal price, but you get a CD disc to re-install as needed, and the software comes with a license to allow it to be installed on three different computers. The product has some features I did not expect, like a map of where particular viruses are predominate in certain parts of the globe. I was out of the country when my last subscription expired.

Even while it is scanning in the back ground, I still have not had any slowdown issues with my computer. Just as a side note, it was cheaper going to Amazon and purchasing the 1 user, 3 PC disc, than it was going to the Norton web site and renewing online.

Once set up almost no interaction is required. Best of all though, Norton runs quietly in the background using very little in the way of my computers resources. I hear Norton Ghost is just as flakey.

It's intuitive and efficient. I have an ancient machine by today's standards and I don't notice any system drag during file openings or downloads.

I was disappointed that the download wasn't available and that I had to order the disc, but it still worked great. I haven't used any of their products in the last 4 years. I've noticed this when there were Internet Explorer browser issues, Norton was correcting them as they were being identified, keeping browsing safer. I was experiencing some slowdown in the performance of my computer.

Although this one has some improvements, they really are dead ends. This is good for blocking most things but once something gets on it never will seem to find it. This is by far the worst NIS issue I've ever seen and it makes the program completely unusable. FYI it is on 3 different OS versions and happens with both Mozilla and IE. It installed simply and easily. It has fully protected my PC for 3 months now and does it without draining resources from my PC, annoying pop up messages, or locking my PC. This is a great option for a desktop/laptop user because it's cheaper than having to buy 3 individual copies. I have been using Norton for a few years now and I will continue to use it...very good product, not perfect but good.

This software is among the best of the anti-virus suites on the market. I have seldom had a piece of malware get onto my system.

When I manually disable the NIS software (just for comparison), my system flies and is back to normal! Obviously, the culprit is Norton Internet Security. Also, I don't really think their virus protection is very effective and they definitely bog down the performance of the system more than some effective competitors. If there were a class action suit against these guys, I'd join it.
