Deciding On Reliable Self-Defense For Oneself

By Josh Q Samanaz

Having lived in an unsafe neighborhood for most of my adult life, I have learned how to take certain safety measures. I carry a stun gun around for personal protection, with the expectation that it will disable the crooks long enough for me to flee.

However, on one particular instance, I was mugged at gunpoint and the enemy saw my stun gun coming. Furthermore, he appeared resistant to the electric shock from it. When I did some research later on, I discovered that I might not have had the best stun gun for the situation.

A stun gun is a non-lethal weapon for self-defense. It incapacitates an attacker by giving an electric shock that overrides the recipient's ability to move as well as causes them to fall over in pain.

The effect lasts for only a few minutes and causes no long term harm. This should give you enough time to escape and call for help. One of the complications with my current stun gun was that it was too big and so its target could see it coming.

I learned, from my study, that several mini stun guns out there are extremely powerful. They are light in weight and easy to carry. A small stun gun could be hidden in the palm of your hand, giving you the element of surprise.

The second issue was that the voltage rating on my present stun device was too low. Thus, I decided to change my old weapon with a Barracuda BC-30 3 million volt stun gun, although there was a 2 million volt version as well, the BC-20.

A high voltage stun gun such as this provides enough punch to take any foe down, regardless of his size and tolerance for pain. It featured a safety switch as well as a nylon holster that I can carry it in.

Needless to say, the best stun gun for a given situation is somewhat subjective. In terms of choosing the right self-defense device, you should always weigh your options against your requirements and select the best one that suits your needs.
