The Outdoors Are The Best Part Of An Alaskan Vacation

By Larry Sabler

There are few places in the United States that can boast as much natural beauty as Alaska, and when it comes to untamed natural beauty, this state wins hands down. You can enjoy your Alaskan vacation in more ways than one, may it be sight-seeing near the mountains or near its quiet salmon-filled lakes.

There are many cities in Alaska you can visit, but the two most prominent would be the Southern city of Anchorage and the Northern city of Fairbanks. One way of getting the best from your time in Alaska is to fly into one of the airports and out of the other. Then you have a choice of how you'll get from one to other, and part of your vacation will be traveling in the direction of your return airport by car.

For added adventure, you can take the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks (or vice versa). This train ride would take you through sights you may not be able to see while driving - this includes Hurricane Gulch, Mears Memorial Bridge, Nenana River Canyon, and of course, Mt. McKinley, which is one of the world's tallest mountains. Be prepared for these attractions and more on this unforgettable train ride!

The sporting scene in Alaska is quite unique, so the more active vacationer can check the dog mushing scene out while at Fairbanks, or opt to go backpacking in Alaska's famous Denali National Park. Those who want to spend the night at Denali National Park need to be advised of this unique, yet understandable policy - anyone planning to stay the night would need to complete a reservation form. You can go fishing and canoing on the lake - very relaxing and serene sports - or take pictures of the wildlife or go panning for gold. Speaking of sports and relaxation, you even have the option to play golf at the park. For those looking for more of a rush, Alaska offers water rafting, rock climbing and heli-skiing as options for extreme sports enthusiasts.

Alaska may be America's coldest state, but it is much more than that for vacationers. Alaska is also a great vacation spot, and you won't regret it if you book your next vacation travel there.
