Having Fun in Sin City: Amusement Parks

By James Darien

Except for the casinos and clubs, Vegas features masses of other attractions close to the strip. Some of the best are also some of the most bizarre, including amusement parks in Las Vegas. Some great examples are given below.

Dig This

One of the newest theme parks in Las Vegas, but speedily becoming fairly popular is Dig This. This site allows clients to operate heavy gear used in construction, utilizing a mix of excavators and bulldozers. After safety instruction, clients are let lose with their rigs in a large dust filled construction site and guided through an earth-moving experience lasting up to three hours. The taxis are air-conditioned and operated under the guidance of an instructor. Driver's license is not needed.

Vegas Indoor Skydiving

Ever wanted to try sky diving but the thought of jumping from heights daunts you? This is the solution. After a quick instruction period, guests change into jump suits and then enter a wind tunnel that lifts you up in the air and feels like you are flying. Guests remain under supervision while flying and are safely brought back to the ground when the flight is over. Lasting roughly an hour, this amusement park in Las Vegas is a great way to spend part of your trip.

Exotics Racing

Ever wanted to be a race driver? Here is your chance. Located at the LV Motor Speedway, Exotics Racing gives its purchasers a choice of driving five laps in a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, Nissan GT-R or Audi R8 sports autos. More modern models are added to the available vehicles per year. Each driver is under the direction of a safety instructor. Another choice available is just to be a passenger while a professional race automobile driver drives the sports car round the track at a velocity over 200 mph.

Adventure Dome Theme Parks

These indoor theme parks in Las Vegas at the Circus Circus are open to everyone. It's not important to be a guest of the Circus Circus to go to visit the park. This is a true family activity in Las Vegas where everybody will find something interesting to do. There are roller coasters, Ferris wheels, aerial buses, midway games of all kinds, a sizeable arcade, mini bowling center and access to free circus shows. All this is available for one entry price for all day access.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Want to escape from all the lights for awhile? Red Rock Ravine is a national park 13 miles outside of Vegas and will give you a great view of the natural plants and animals in the Nevada area. Animals include roadrunners, jack rabbits, butterflies and assorted birds. Plants include the Joshua tree, scrub oak, cottonwood, and a few sorts of yucca. Going to the visitor center, you can arrange for led walks or self steered tours of the 13 mile drive through the park. It is a good idea to bring water and any food you would like to eat with you as the sole shop at the park is the gift shop which just has 1 or 2 things to eat.

What About Las Vegas Water Parks?

LV appears a wonderful place for water parks, but Las Vegas water parks closed in 2007. With the swimming pools at the hotels and resorts, the Las Vegas water parks just did not draw enough business.

After all these options we have listed here, we hope that you will find some time on your trip to the Sin City to visit at least one of them. Enjoy!
