By Joanna Walsh

If wanting to go fishing it is always a good idea to be able to distinguish between the different species that one is bound to catch. It is also true when it comes to the shark fishing Cape Cod provides. Many say that this is the best place where one will be able to catch the monster shark, the Great White. The area around Hyannis Barnstable Massachusetts is one of the places where world record sizes concerning sharks can be caught.

These creatures are truly amazing and when seeing one for the first time one will be in awe of their beauty. There are so many different species ranging from the large to the small. The most feared one because it is so aggressive is the Great White.

There is a list of the ten most dangerous sharks and the first is the Bull Shark. Its scientific name is Carcharhinus Leucas and can grow to be about eleven and a half feet in length. They can weigh anything from two hundred to five hundred pounds.

Nantucket has only about ten thousand inhabitants but during the summer months this number is known to increase substantially. It is roughly about fifty kilometres south of Cape Cod and according to the Forbes magazine all the houses are valued as the highest in the country. In 1966 it became a National Historic Landmark due to the still surviving architectural and environmental examples. These can be dated back as far as the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.

Martha's Vineyard is also located just south of Cape Cod and also includes a smaller island by the name of Chappaquiddick. It was a part of the main mass but during a storm in 2007 is broke away. It is only about two hundred and sixty kilometres square and is not connected to the mainland by any means. The only way to land on this island is by air or ferry.

The main language is English but before that in 1642 they spoke Noepe. The movie directed by Steven Spielberg, Jaws was filmed on this Island mostly in the villages of Menemsha and Chilmark. All of the extras that were portrayed in the film where island natives. All the sequels to the movie were also filmed on this location and in 2005 the inhabitants celebrated the thirtieth anniversary with a week end Jaws fest.

The fifth most dangerous shark is thought to be the Shortfin Mako and can reach about ten feet and weight up to three hundred pounds. They are the fastest of all the sharks and this could be because of their torpedo shaped bodies. If they are provoked they will attack and when they are caught in fishing lines have managed to free themselves. Those that escape onboard the boat have been known to turn on their captors and bit if the opportunity presents itself.

It is known as the Capital of the Cape as it is the main transport and business centre of Cape Cod. They have a JFK Hyannis Museum in the old Town Hall and the main focus is when John F Kennedy spent some time in this village. There is also a memorial that was erected at the waterfront in 1966 by the citizens.
