Social Media Agencies & The Do's And Don'ts Of Gaining Followers

By Rob Sutter

There are many attributes that social media accounts are associated with, but few seem to stand out as much as the number of followers said accounts have. Social media agencies can agree, seeing as how the best accounts tend to generate multiple new followers each day. How is this done, though, you may wonder? If you'd like to know how to build your own follower base, regardless of the specific website, these do's & don'ts should prove useful.

DO follow people who share similar interests. The first step to gaining more followers, according to companies like fishbat, is to follow people who think similarly to you. Simply put, it's in your best interest to connect to those who share the interests you possess. It's also worth noting that connecting to people in your industry can account for a lot. This is just the start, though, as far as gaining followers is concerned.

DON'T think that your followers don't matter. Even though you can build a strong number of followers, individuals should be addressed. On social media, engagement is everything, from big businesses to the smallest of names. In terms of the latter, particular those who follow you, responding to their messages can work to your benefit. This will show that you're more of a person, rather than a faceless entity, which can only work wonders for you.

DO be mindful of what content you share. If you're going to build your number of followers further, make sure that you provide information that people can use. For example, you might be involved in the video game industry, meaning that you'll want to share content that's relevant. Maybe an article detailing an upcoming console will grab the attention of those who follow you. This would be a safe bet, so keep this in mind as well.

DON'T overload your followers' feeds. It's very easy to spam others on social media, even if you don't intend to. When you update your page multiple times a day, your followers will see said updates, which can become overwhelming, even to the point where they unfollow you. Ideally, you'll want to keep your updates modest, from anywhere between one to two per day. Not only will you say what you must, but followers will be more inclined to stick around.
