Contemporary Art Displays Without Making A Hole In Your Wall

By Gregory Nelson

Are you among those folks who are under the illusion that artwork has to be hung on a wall? There are a variety of other ways you can display artwork pieces in your home without drilling a hole into the wall and causing possible damage. Well, if you're not confident of drilling holes and don't want to spend money on hiring others to do it, there are other ways to achieve creative Contemporary Art Displays. And the best thing is that you also save money on acquiring expensive mounting gear!

One unusual way to exhibit your artwork is to lean it against pieces of household furniture, and this works best on side tables commonly seen in sociable places such as a living room or private areas like a bedroom. If you want to display your artwork in this way, then it is important to make certain that the height of the paintings is not taller than the table you have selected because this will appear too strange and unsightly.

Protect your artwork with proper framing. Notice how your kitchen areas, like the floor, cupboards and walls, feel oily after cooking? Since your artwork is going to be displayed in the kitchen, where there's going to be a lot of grease from cooking, you should ensure that you give your art pieces proper protection so that it will be long-lasting.

The artwork piece should be typically about three quarters the length of the table. Ensure also, that the artwork display is noticeable, that people can see it and appreciate it. Don't let the artwork face some corner of the room, where no one can see it.

Having a strategic position is quite important. For instance, when hanging artwork on the wall behind a dining table, hang the artwork pieces between the chairs at the dining table. This will ensure that people sitting down will not be blocking the artwork pieces behind them. Also, create a little space between the wall where the artwork is displayed and the dining table, if space permits of course.

Also, it is appropriate to avoid a table with a slippery surface as this could potentially result in the painting falling off or being knocked over leading to irreparable damage. You don't have to limit yourself to just one artwork piece. If the table is long enough, you can use two or three artwork pieces, leaning on top of the other, with the largest piece at the back and the smallest at the front. When resting a piece of artwork against another, make sure the overlap does not cover the artwork work of the back piece.

If your table has enough space, accessorize it! You can use items like candles, vases, candle holders, small stones, small statues, and fruit baskets, among others. Any of these items can be bought cheaply at the neighborhood flea market.

Select a suitable theme. The selection depends on the theme and the mood of your decor. Assuming you have chosen a modern contemporary setting for your home, suitable artwork pieces you can use for your kitchen or dining area could be food related. Pictures of fruits or vegetables hanging on the wall would surely whet the appetites of diners.
