I've always fancied a visit to Redang Island or Pulau Redang (as known by many others) after catching the movie, Summer Holiday, in my younger days. A couple of months back, I came upon an attractive deal from Redang Bay Resort, so I thought, why not?
Onboard Berjaya Air from Singapore
Redang bay resort is located on Redang Island, off the eastern coast of Terengganu (Peninsula Malaysia). It is pretty convenient if you are staying in Malaysia, Singapore or even Batam. For my peers residing in Kuala Lumpur, 6 hours drive away is all there is to the jetty at Merang or Kuala Terengganu.
70 minutes flight from Singapore
My first time flying with Berjaya Air. Prim and proper plane with little passengers. A mere 70 mins is all it takes by flight from Changi Budget Terminal, Singapore. I literally had my safety-belt on throughout the entire duration of the flight. I couldn't recall when was the last time I had my seat-belt in place throughout a flight.
Landing in Redang
When I arrived in Redang, it was simply heaven. Crystal clear glowing waters, powder like sandy beach front, lovely coral reefs and a crew of the resort b me that there are more than 20 diving and snorkeling areas can be found around Redang Island.
45 seconds away from the beach
The most impressive part of the resort I chose is that the beach is simply a few strides away from the resort. I guess maybe a 45 seconds walk? I was tempted to try out some of the features the resort offer including canoeing trips, karaoke, Beach football (my favourite), Kayak trips, and various card games. But nothing beats hanging out at the beach with a bottle of Tiger Beer.
Looking at some of the offers available at the resort which includes:
1. Trekking the jungle
2. snorkeling & scuba diving
I chose the snorkeling trip!
Tips when visiting Redang
Some tips if you have plans to visit Redang anytime soon. :)
Price: RM 428 per person for twin room. This includes boat transfer from Merang Jetty.
An attractive package;
3days and 2nights which comes with the following: 8 meals (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, 2 tea breaks) meals served buffet style with barbeques on alternate nights (I really loved that)
There are certain packages that includes 3 snorkeling trips and operate at: 9.30am & 2.30pm daily. Includes 1 snorkeling site at Marine Park. If you are not a sea sports person, you can choose to replace it with a jungle trekking trip instead.
Do take note, all packages excludes: marine park fee - RM 5 and life jacket rental - RM 15 and mask snorkel set rental - RM 15
Book a flight with Berjaya Air if you are from Singapore - it flies from Changi Budget Terminal to Redang Airport in a mere 70 minutes. Flight departing at 11.50am and reaches around 1pm Redang. Returning flight to Singapore is at 10am. This daily flight back to Singapore is a huge thumbs up for me!
Berjaya Air cost SGD 150 for return flight tickets comes with only 10kg luggage allowance. Is alright for me anyway.
In conclusion, I had a great weekend at Pulau Redang.
