Healthy Vending Machines Replace Junk Food Options

By Elinor Tran

Schools and recreation places where kids hang out are the first to switch to healthy vending machines. A ban on soda, sports drinks, and both sugary and fatty foods initiated this extreme turn around. Healthy snacks like granola bars and rice based chips are the new offerings kids get to choose from. Teas and coconut water are just two of the beverage choices now available. Gone are junk food selections and brand name soda choices.

Healthy food and beverage options from a machine that dispenses food, until recently, was no where to be found. Following the trend in healthier food and drink, all that is changing. Offering items from fresh fruits and vegetables, to hot food choices, new vending machines are replacing the old. Selections are even portion controlled.

By educating the public with these new food options, the obesity problem will hopefully soon be a thing of the past. Consumers now can be better informed as to what they eat by reading the nutritional information posted about the food they buy out of a machine. Calories are also in plain sight. Both these informative educational tools will hopefully contribute to a permanent lifestyle change for many.

Two of the worst diet ingredients, sugar and saturated fat are non-existent in the healthy new choices. Fruit and all it's benefits, is however, one of the best selections available. Organic products are also a new addition to this new food change. Yogurt and fresh vegetables, along with juices and low fat milk are the usual staples in this new wave of choices.

Although such places as public buildings and offices where people work still have junk food available, they are on the fast track to making the change to the healthier options. Nuts, granola bars, and vitamin water are catching on as favorites of the working class. Unhealthy food is becoming a thing of the past slowly, but surely.

Most individuals spend the majority of their day at work, school, or in public places. These are the targets for beginning the changing of people's eating habits. Offering healthy food choices in dispensing machines is a positive first step in educating them. A better lifestyle with less health issues and a future without an obesity problem, is the direction in which this new food trend hopes to lead us all.
