By Alice Whitley

The sea and beaches in Mauritius are one of the primary attractions, whether you are on a family vacation, a sporty vacation with chums or on honeymoon. The water is crystal-clear and amazingly clean. The color of the sea is a very particular light turquoise, which harmonizes wonderfully with the white sand and lush green foliage. Mauritius is completely full of small bays where you can enjoy privacy and peace. If you like snorkeling, head off to Pointe aux Piments, which is world famous for it's underwater scenery.

You may think about making an excursion to Il aux Cerfs Island, commonly known as Deer Island. It is accessible via a short boat trip from the mainland and offers a fascinating and tranquil experience amidst secluded bays and gigantic palm trees.

All Mauritians talk French and English and so you'll have no trouble communicating while there. Taxi drivers are especially garrulous and can provide you with lots of "insider info" about the island. Mauritius truly is probably one of the most amazing island states in Southeast East Asia, enriched by spectacular tropical nature but also by a fascinating heritage and beautiful arts.

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and a fantastic tourist draw. When visiting you may enjoy stopping at the Royal Botanical Garden, the Government House, the Blue Penny Museum and the Central Market.

Mauritius is the native land of the Dodo which had gone extinct by 1681. Unfortunately the Dutch and Portuguese sailors not only ate these birds but also introduced dogs, pigs, cats, rats and macaque monkeys to the island. Since the Dodo were big flightless birds that nested on the ground, the nests were pillaged by these new animals and didn't survive for long.

Mauritius is an island and the sole airport is in the town of Plaisance, close to the coast. If you do not like lots of automobile travel there are lot's of pretty spots not too far away, however the island itself is tiny so whether or not you go by auto to the opposite end you probably still won't be car-sick! There aren't any trains but taxies are readily available and rather cheap and or you can go for an automobile hire. Buses are less expensive but are not very comfortable to use when you're carrying lot's off bags as to get on you have several high steps to climb. Also they don't take you to all the possible destinations, particularly if you have chosen a secluded hotel.

Holidays to Mauritius are perfect if you're on honeymoon but regardless of whether you simply need to relax and unwind. The length of the stay can vary from a few days to a couple of weeks. When making plans for your trip to Mauritius do not forget to make arrangements for babysitting, plant watering and pet care. A few people use house-sitters or maybe house swapping, to be sure that their domestic situation will be tended to while they're away and they can fully enjoy their vacation.

You can spend a day in Black Stream Gorges State Park, well known for the numerous animal species you can see and especially the many varieties of decorative birds which make the Park appear like a latter day Garden of Eden. Here you'll find the Pink Pigeon, the Mauritius Kestrel, the Olive and the Grey White eye and the Mauritius Fody, just to name a few . The Government has invested substantially in the wildlife parks and this has permitted for a rise in fauna.

The warm weather all year and the contrast of the very green lush vegetation to the soft white sands and azure sea make it a vacation spot well worth visiting and travellers increase every year.
