Very Best Grand Canyon National Park Spring Break Helicopter Trips

By Jacky Archer

The Spring Break is fast approaching. Students and families all over America will be looking for something special to do between March and April. If you've been wanting to try something different, it is time to book a tour to the Grand Canyon. Helicopter flights depart from Vegas, but you'll have to book soon to make sure you don't miss out.

Las Vegas Helicopter Tours

The helicopters that depart from Vegas fly to the West Rim. The West Rim is closest to Vegas, so that is where the tours head, and it only takes about 30 minutes to cover the 120 miles from Vegas to the Canyon by helicopter. However, if you want to tour the South Rim instead, you can take an airplane flight there from Vegas rather than a helicopter flight.

Helicopters fly over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam on the way out to the Canyon, after which your adventure will begin. There are flyover tours, as well as landing tours at the West Rim. Flyover tours allow for some epic sightseeing, but the landing tours are where the true adventures can be found.

Landing tours are fantastic, because you can land at the top of the rim, or inside the Canyon next to the Colorado River. The bottom landing tour that I recommend is the one that includes a Champagne picnic. This will set you down right next to the river, where you can even take a boat tour.

Top Landing Tours

Landing at the top will put you next to some of the Canyon's best hiking trails, as well as the Skywalk. The Skywalk is an impressive platform that is 4000ft above the bottom of the Canyon. It is also 70ft over the edge, and has a transparent floor. It's exhilarating to stand on the Skywalk and marvel at the beauty of the National Park. If you're going to walk out on any of the trails, Guano Point and Eagle Point both offer spectacular views.

Helicopters

When you book your helicopter tour, you have the option to upgrade to the deluxe version. The deluxe tour is best because these fly on the EcoStar 130 helicopters. This helicopter has a spacious cabin, flies smoother than any other touring helicopter, and has large stadium style seats. Best of all, it has a huge panoramic viewing window, which will give you unobstructed views, 180 degrees around the front of the helicopter.

Deluxe tours also come with a limousine shuttle service, so you'll feel like a real VIP when you purchase tickets for these tours.

South Rim Tours

If you fly out to the South Rim, or if Arizona is more convenient than Las Vegas, you will have two different air-only tours to choose from. The first is a 30 minute tour that goes to the North Rim of the Canyon. The second tour, which is the most popular, is 50 minutes, and includes the eastern areas of the National Park. The longer tour allows you to see 75% of the scenery in the park.

Although South Rim helicopters aren't permitted to land inside the Canyon, you could combine a helicopter tour with an exciting Jeep tour that covers all of the landmarks from the ground.

Final Thoughts

I love the Grand Canyon. It is steeped in history, filled with natural beauty, and offers many exciting adventures. The sights are second to none, and with helicopters, you will have the best vantage point. For Spring Break, go with a deluxe package for the best experience. There are lots of fun adventures to add on when you tour the West Rim, and you can tour the South Rim if you prefer and add on a Jeep tour too.

Just remember to book soon so that you won't miss out. The earlier you book, the better the prices will be. Book online and confirm with your credit card, and you'll have your seats locked in for a tour that you will remember for life.
