By Steven Martin

These activities of mountain rescues refer to search and rescue that often occurs in the mountainous areas. These kind of mountains have include an ice, avalanches, glaciers, snow, alpine, and crevasses environment that have a paid rope access. And because these activities can be very difficult, especially in those kind of areas, many techniques and equipment are being developed for these purposes.

The most commonly used for these are helicopters. Through it, it would be easy for the rescuers to see victims from above and they can extract them easily by using ropes or other paraphernalia. They also use dogs for searching some victims. A mountain rescue training is being offered for a person who wants to be a volunteer or a professional when it comes to this type of activity. Paid rescue services are done usually in ski resorts.

Despite from this, most teams prefer to volunteer, since their work do not happen everyday. And this job really needs specific knowledge and requirements especially when it comes to some other kinds of environment. These voluntary teams are usually composed of local guides and local climbers.

Paid services do usually work cooperatively with voluntary teams. This would also mean that those paid helicopters can also work with voluntary teams. Mountain rescues are usually free, only a few organizations will ask for charges for the service.

Anyone can be able to join a team for as long as you are really determined to help and if you do not easily get nervous. So for you to join, first step is to ask the local teams and speak to them. By talking to some members of a team, you might be able to get the chance of knowing the procedures for joining in their team.

Another is try to determine the skills you already possess. Most organizations will be assessing you skills through interviews, practical assessments, and probationary periods before trainings. And the most important thing is you need to know and understand what the job is really up to. And through this, you will know more about the team, about the things that you want to volunteer for, and the expectation of the team from you.

Another thing is your families and employers should know about this. Though you are very excited about the job, your family have right to know, since they are ones who easily get worried. Everyday attendance may not be compulsory, but it will be checked from time to time during trainings and call outs. Your attendance will prove that you are one valuable member.

This rescue is a little bit expensive because you are the one who will provide yourself with all the needed kits and materials. These include head torch, boots, backpack, and some protective materials like helmets and harnesses. Another tip is to wait patiently. You may be called for a long time after you already have gone to many trainings. The reason is the team wants something more from you, so do not easily get frustrated.

And lastly, always prepare yourself, because you might undergo higher training levels in the future. Do an advance study on rope and water rescues, mathematics and statistics for missing victims, and first aid procedures.
