Why Going On Moose Tours Is A Great Idea

By Deborah Russell

Wildlife tours are one of the most satisfying and picturesque things to do when out on a trip with family and friends. This is especially fun for kids. So for those with little sports, it is recommended and highly educational to go and watch these animals in their natural habitat.

There are a lot of things to do during these nature tours. One of the most famous places to watch these species of deer are in Maine. Maine moose tours are accommodating and fun. It is perfect for first dates, if you are running out of great ideas. They are incredible animals after all.

The tour guides are very accommodating and knowledgeable about the creature from their diet to their biology and maybe even their quirks. Hiring this service is a safer option when compared to just taking a drive around routes hoping to chance upon the creature. Safaris are more informational too and are set in picturesque settings.

One huge achievement for photographers, professional or hobbyist, is getting a great picture of the animal in its natural environment. Many great pictures of male moose with their majestic full antlers is something anyone who took the shot would be proud of. This is probably one of those things you can brag about when you get back to the city, and for good reason too.

Some bull moose can have majestic antlers that can average up to six feet. There are many amazing things that you can witness with these animals during May through July. During these months the best times to watch them is at dawn and dusk. Imagine taking a picture from a distance with such great lighting and a bull moose with all its antlered glory. That alone is worth the trip.

Full antlers for bulls come out at around fall. So if this is what you look for go at around this season. November to December, for matured ones, are the time they shed their antlers. For younger males, they can reach shedding until March. It is more likely for you to get a good sighting when employing the service of safari and tour guides.

There are about 5 famous spots to catch a sighting of elk in Maine. The first one being The Rangeley Lakes. There is also Carrabasset Valley that can be for canoeing. Moosehead Lake will have the creature likely appear at the wallow. There are just so many places where you can catch them.

These animals are drawn to certain locations due to their diet and behavior. Roadside wallows is great spot to hang out in if you want to catch a glimpse of them. This is due to the puddles and ponds. You can tell these places apart because there is often a trail that leads away from the main road.

Moose are not known to be violent, but just like other animals they will not hesitate to attack when threatened. Best to set out with keeping quite and a mindset to just observe when you go on the tour. You would know if the large deer is threatened if one, they bluff charge at you, run away, or hope this does not happen, actually charge at you, for real.
