East Africa forms an important part in the continent and plays a role in enhancing the unique attributes it is renowned for. There is a lot to learn from a historical Ethiopia tour.

Despite the tide of changes brought by civilization and modernity, Ethiopia still has a glistening past that it holds on to. Its history dates as far as the bible. Historians often refer to it as the cradle of humankind. Human fossils that go back millions of years continue to be discovered in its lands.

The burial site of Emperor Haile Selassie lies within the Trinity Cathedral. Much of Ethiopian and Rastafarian culture can be tied to the emperor. He largely became famous for his contribution to Ethiopian independence by leading a resistance against Italian conquest during the struggle by European nations to partition Africa. There are many city streets that bear his name in Africa.

Bahar Dar is a popular spot for many tourists. This is because of the many wonders within it. The source of the Blue Nile, Lake Tana, can be found in its vicinity. Furthermore, it is home to many ancient monasteries. If you are keen on the history of religion, this is one area you might want to include in your itinerary.

Gondar is one great tourist attraction too. Once you settle in, check out the ancient remains of Kuskuam. The area once housed Mentewab, the Empress of Ethiopia, in the 1700s. Located close by is the Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO world heritage site. Consisting of 5 castles, it was constructed by Ethiopian kings in successive fashion in the same century.

Your trip will be incomplete without a visit to Axum. With its historical significance, the ancient Axumite Empire used it as its capital. Today, it is a protected site in accordance with UNESCO designations. The 2000 year old Stelae fields located around the area still stand strong.

To finalize your visit, travel to Lalibela. Mount Asheton monastery calls the area home. The monastery is a rock hewn enclosure built in the 1200s. At the end of your exploration, you may fly back to the capital right from Lalibela.
