Best Campsite Choices For Lake Superior Camping

By Betty Hayes

If there is a city that has managed to remain intertwined with nature despite the effects of urbanization, it is Ontario. The city has a mix of both sides, at least if the numerous campsites and nature trails in its outskirts are anything to go by. This article looks at a few campsites that are perfect for Lake Superior camping.

Besides sitting close to the city, the other areas that surround the lake are incredibly beautiful. The scenery includes cliffs, waterfalls, hills, beaches and river valleys. Most campers who visit like to hike and paddle near the shoreline of the lake.

There is a visitor center close by too. It chronicles the cultural history of Ontario besides giving insights on recreational activities. In terms of camping, the options are limitless. There are two municipal campgrounds that offer RV services. In addition to this, there are over 200 regular campgrounds. Most of these camps are only open to the public from May to October, so plan you schedule well.

One of the best sites to get a good campground in is the Bayfield Ashland area. It has a fair number of campsites that are good for the family. The municipal authorities also operate two campgrounds in Washburn. Many campers favor these two over most of the others as they allow RVs and have facilities such as flush toilets and showers. You might also want to take advantage of their free WiFi.

If you simply want somewhere peaceful and significantly near the lake, consider setting up base at Amnicon Falls State Park. It is home to many campgrounds, waterfalls and hiking routes. It has no facilities for RVs nonetheless. This is a place you might want to consider if you love minimal interruptions when exploring nature. Pattison State Park, not far away, has far more amenities. To reach it, drive south along Highway 35.

Other great campsites are Spirit Mountain and Indian Point. The two are situated in Duluth. Indian Point has enough capacity for up to 70 tent sites. When it comes to capacity, Spirit Mountain is not left behind as well. Many people know it for its fair RV rules and close proximity to a hiking trail.

The Ontario North Shore sites also have a reputation of their own. Many campers love to stay there overnight due to the availability of shower amenities. They are also known to be quite close to the top nature spots in the locality.

Before you travel, remember to plan your budget well. In this regard, a little research on the prices in most of the campgrounds would help. This information is always available online, so getting it should not be a problem. Majority of the privately owned campsites can be costly during peak camping season. If you are on a budget, you had better try the municipal ones.

You no longer have to stay in motels when around. For that all natural experience, consider hooking up a tent for your stay. It is a great way to spend quality time with your loved ones.
