Things To Keep In Mind When Selecting A Ft McMurray Camping Ground

By Carl Peterson

Spending a lot of time at home during weekends and holidays can be boring. Most families, therefore, opt to spend a few nights outdoors in a natural environment. During that period, they get involved in various activities that provide them with enjoyment. When planning to take part in such outdoor activities, it is good to note the campground decision is not an easy one. The following are some tips for choosing a Ft McMurray camping site.

One of the things to keep in mind is the size of the campground. It will be a bad thing to encroach on other sites because you will be forced to pay for space. Not lighting a campfire safely because you fear burning other tents is not a good thing too. So, make sure your choice of a site is one with ample space for the tents you have, the gears and a campfire.

The next thing to remember is finding out the ground surface of the site. The level is very critical. No one wants to slide out of his or her bed while sleeping or be crammed against the tent walls. It is due to this reason that it is advisable to camp away from hilly areas. The nights become very uncomfortable hence affecting the activities of the next day due to lack of enough sleep or rest. Pick sites with level grounds where you can rest comfortably.

The other factor to consider is the shade. If you will be spending outdoors during the summer, temperatures are expected to be high which is why having a shade is a nice idea. Check the type of trees that are around you and ensure they can provide morning and afternoon shade. Being awaken early in the morning due to the rising sun will not allow you enough rest thus making a shade very crucial.

Also, inspect what is around and above you. Look above you when picking a site and ensure you will not be pitching a tent under a weak or dead tree branch. Loose lock ledges can also be a problem. Pick a site that is safe for you and the family. Similarly, do not camp close to a river because of flooding if it is on a rainy season. If the winds are strong or there is a storm, pick a ground that is behind a windbreak.

Keep in mind that clean water is very important when camping because of cooking and drinking. The last thing you want is to contract waterborne diseases at the end of the weekend or holiday. Therefore, when deciding on a site, remember to go with the one that is close to a clean water source. But remember not to be very close because there are side effects of doing that.

Moreover, consider the amenities of the site. Toilets and showers are necessary since you must take a shower during the period you are spending outdoors. Get a campground with sufficient toilets. This will reduce traffic. The toilets should however not be very close because of bad odor.

Lastly, keep in mind the distance between you and the other sites. Proximity determines the amount of privacy you are going to have. If the sites are too close, there must be screening available so that people cannot see or hear what is going on in other tents.
