Holidaying In The Blue Mountains

By Anton Maverick

While you are travelling in New South Wales, specifically in the Sydney area, visit the Blue Mountains. Campervan Hire Australia makes this easy and it only takes an hour and a half to drive from Sydney. It is an ideal day trip nevertheless , if you have some time, you should consider staying longer because it is a particularly surprising part of Australia.

The Blue Mountains was so named because of it's 'blue ' hue when observed from afar. The area has dense Eucalyptus trees of the oil bearing variety and consequently, the atmosphere of the area contains a mixture of oil droplets, water vapour and dust particles which create rays of mostly blue light. The area was World Heritage Listed in 2000, seven years prior to it being placed on the Australian Countrywide Heritage List.

The blue Mountains National Park has many natural attractions including lots of waterfalls and lookouts. There are plenty of walking trails to explore and you could easily spend a couple of days just doing this. Major attractions include The Three Sisters, Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, Queens Cascades and Queen Victoria Lookout to name only a few.

There are numerous heritage and Art Deco lodging houses spattered across the Blue Mountains and these supply a treat in themselves. Resorts, spas and health retreats are also increasingly springing up to provide weekend getaways from the strain of living and working in nearby Sydney. Conversely, some folks live in the mountains and commute to work in Sydney.

The various hamlets throughout the area have a good choice of bistros, antique shops and all kinds of fascinating things to do and see. The hamlets are quaint, the mountain atmosphere is bracing and the prospects is simply stunning. If you only have a day, make the most of it, but if you can stay longer, let the area work it's magic.
