Hot Spots for Gay Vacations

By Howie Holben

The world is full of exciting and wondrous places to visit and things to do and see. If you do not want to deal with the hassles of planning a vacation yourself, gay vacations are an excellent option for leaving the planning to the professionals and simply enjoying your trip, while having life-changing experiences. Best of all, depending on where you wish to travel, LGBT tours can be taken any time of year.

Brazil is one of many popular gay travel destinations. Travelers to Rio de Janeiro will find Christ the Redeemer and breathtaking views atop Corcovado, or can spend the day at one of the famous beaches, such as Copacabana. There is also great shopping and non-stop nightlife for visitors looking for a bit of urban fun during their stay.

If you want an urban getaway instead, you will find much to see and do in the lively city of So Paulo. The city has a legendary LGBT club scene, which is perhaps the largest in the world. There is also unforgettable Brazilian dining, historic museums and top tier shopping at some of the best upscale stores around.

If Europe is more to your liking, gay vacations in Spain are a great choice. Barcelona is considered the friendliest LGBT city in Europe, and there is no end to the things to do. If historic architecture whets your appetite, you will not want to miss the awe-inspiring buildings designed by Antonio Gaudi. There is also the Alhambra in Granada and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is also a popular choice for gay vacations, particularly the hot tourist spots of Malaga and Torremolinos.

For those who enjoy experiencing local life, attending a village fiesta is a great experience. These parties are typically religious in nature; however, they are very fun and will often go well into the night. Thankfully, Spain is also full of lovely sidewalk cafs, which are the perfect place to relax and people watch, while recovering from a long day of sightseeing - or a long night.

Of course, there is much more to Europe than the vibrant country of Spain. France is another hot destination, where visitors can take D-Day tours through Normandy, visit the castles of Loire, go wine tasting in Burgundy or spend their entire vacation attempting to see and do all that Paris has to offer. And then, of course, there is London, which is a perfectly decadent destination for gay vacations.

Speaking of London, whilst soaking up the sights of merry England, you can see Big Ben, take a cruise on the Thames, visit Buckingham palace, ride the London Eye, catch a show or take a tour of St. Paul's cathedral. If, after all the sight-seeing, you yearn to cut loose, London is home to some of the best LGBT nightclubs in the UK, including Fire, Heaven, Ruby Tuesdays, The Shadow Lounge and more.

If your ideal gay travel destination involves ancient ruins, sun-soaked beaches and indulging in local food and drink, the Mediterranean might be your ideal destination for solo trips or gay tours. In between visiting the vast array of historic sites, visitors can haggle with sellers in Athens markets or enjoy the exceptional beauty of Crete. Of course, if open-air markets are not exactly your cup of tea, Athens also has a variety of upscale boutiques and shops.

Then, of course, there is Egypt. With its breathtakingly blue skies, never-ending dunes and important place in the history of civilization and humankind, Egypt is a unique destination for gay travel. Here you can stand upon the Giza Plateau as you contemplate the ominous majesty of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, which will likely cause you to catch your breath as you think about their importance to history.

There are many exciting options for gay vacations throughout the world. Regardless of whether you choose solo travel to a tourist hot spot, or choose to take part in gay tours that explore exotic destinations, you are sure to make new friends and lifelong memories during your travels.
